Woofers' "Oui Oui" all the way through Paris, France

Woofers looking stoic in Paris, France.

I received the following, very braggadocious email from Woofers and Mariana today complete with photos.  They seem to have taken Paris by storm.  And apparently Paris has inspired Woofers to speak in a more formal tongue…

Dearest Michaela-
Hoping the family vacation to the “mid-west” was fun.  Sorry to miss it after all these decades of joining the Guzwald clan.  The Aguirre’s have been showing me around Paris.  I can’t believe you’ve never brought me on one of your previous jaunts to the city of lights!  Even the canine crowd dress better here than in NYC!  Chic and sophisticated pups everywhere I turn!  Because I am just getting acclimated to Paris, we’ve done some of the cultural activities like visiting the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.  Yesterday, I accompanied Mariana shopping at some of your favorite shops, including Tara JarmonVanessa Bruno and Isabel Marant.  Afterwards we headed over to the rue de Passy in the 16th arrondissement for more shopping.  I’m already over budget– the French know how to dress!  And the people and puppy watching is phenom

Mariana and Woofers in Paris.  At least it looks chilly…

We popped into the Raffles Le Royal Monceau, just to see designer Philippe Starck’s mastermind at work.  The attention to detail in the hotel is devine, darrrrrrrling and the shops weren’t too bad either.  I didn’t get to see the spa, because can you believe, they don’t let dogs in there?  Afterwards, we walked down to the Shangri-La Hotel where we had the most amazing view of the Eiffel Tower.

Even more impressive is the amount of outdoor cafes we’ve sipped coffees and rose at and the restaurants most certainly rival our favorites in NYC.  I’ve included some of my favorites below for your next visit.

I attached a photo of me in front of the Oceania Cruises ship– it looks spectacular.  I can’t wait to set sail.  Ciao for now!  Send you a postcard from Greece!

Au revior,
Woofers.

Woofers’ top picks around Paris, reservations are recommended:

Chez L’Ami Jean is a favorite for locals, located in the 7th arrondisement just near the Eiffel Tower. The atmosphere is casual, but the menu on the fancier side for bistro fare  (01-47-05-86-89).

Mon Vieil Ami is by the well-known Chef Antoine Westermann.  The menu is focused on vegetables.  The staff and atmosphere are perfect.  Located on Ile Saint Louis, just behind Notre Dame.  And if you have a sweet tooth, be sure to head to Berthillon for the famous ice cream and sorbet.

Guy Savoy’s “baby bistros” came highly recommended:  Les Bouquinistes and Atelier Maitre Albert.   Both are located around the corner from one another.  They can attract tourists, but have a very sophisticated feel.  Consistently good food.

Les Itineraires – Contemporary bistro, delicious, well priced (+33 9 61 59 60 53).

L’Epi Dupin– The menu changes frequently, and has a nice range of options and a 3-course prix fixe meal.  A casual spot which is popular among American ex-pats and tourists alike.  Weekend are especially busy.  Located at:  7, rue dupin/6th arrondissement (01 42 22 64 56).

Au Trou Gascon by Chef Alain Dutournier. A typical Parisian menu, but delicious.

Le Comptoir du Relais is often listed as one of the best bistros in Paris. Located in St. German/6th arrondisement.

Le Villaret  is a contemporary bistro and in an off the beaten path location in the 11th arrondisement. Delicious and for Paris, relatively reasonable prices.  Atmosphere is romantic (01.43.57.89.76)

Alain Ducasse’s Benoit – consistently delicious Lyonnais style menu, and while more expensive than other spots I’ve recommended, it is likely the cheapest way to sample Ducasse’s culinary genius.

Ze Kitchen Galeries – is a good option if you need something other than French food.  If such a thing as Asian-French fusion exists, this is is your spot.  A wonderful location in St. Germain, on the Seine and tasty light menu.

Le Timbre–   Everything about this place is small…the space itself and even the French menu.  Open kitchen and bistro dishes with a twist.  Just near Luxembourg Gardens, located at:  3 rue St-Beuve (01 45 49 10 40).

Other classics that are a) more expensive, b) more formal and c) we just couldn’t possibly squeeze in this trip (or dream of buttoning our pants if we continued eating):  Jacques Cagna, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, Les Violins D’ingres, Helene Darroze– one of the few female chefs in Paris and if you really don’t mind dropping a pretty penny– then L’Astrance is one of the best places in Paris, so say the jet-set crowd.
