A bit of background: way back in late March 2020, the OhThePeopleYouMeet team + I were “planning” to release season 1 of our reimagined award-winning series: MICHAELA’S MAP focusing on travel + human connection…which felt to us a bit colorblind as the pandemic rolled across the globe, closing borders (including AUSTRALIA) + literally keeping us apart from one another. In the weirdest of ways, the pandemic only made the content that OTPYM create more relevant. Our exclusive series MICHAELA’S MAP shifts the traditional show model from host to curator, in order to empower local hosts and promote inclusivity. Each episode, I curate the local hosts you are supposed to meet when traveling — from local chefs and artists, sustainable tour operators, hoteliers supporting their local communities, to OTPYM’s award winning film featuring the legendary Dr. Jane Goodall in Sierra Leone. The OTPYM traveling team + I wanted to wait until you could safely travel to AUSTRALIA so we could inspire you + not tease you with our epic footage of breathtaking rugged landscapes, the Australian wildlife + most importantly, our interviews with this colorful cast of local characters. Our editorial focus is how to go sustainably + who to know when you are there. At OTPYM we introduce you to people from across the globe who are happy to share their traditions, music, art, design, food + ultimately their home with you.
